I'm having trouble with the "L'' word _ as in legacy. I've always thought it's what people leave after they die. Now it's used daily _ hourly _ on ESPN and other broadcast and print and internet outlets to talk about athletes. A rookie can finish his first year in any sport and if he does well, they start talking "legacy.''
Please.
I bring this up because of Peyton Manning. The guy hias been the NFL MVP four times, a record. He's on his way to breaking all the NFL passing recordsd except on held by Brett Favre that will probably never be broken _ interceptions. Yet his TEAM loses a Super Bowl _ his team, not him _ and folks a chattering that he's damaged his legacy.
His legacy (and he won't be dead when he retires unless, like Brett, he plays forever) is that he will be one of the top five quarterbacks ever. Maybe the best, although that's one of those things that's impossible to quantify. (I think it's John Unitas, but who knows).
In any case, can the talk.
Thank you |
