It really is unfortunate that Jim Balsillie didn’t follow the NHL’s M.O. is terms of acquiring an NHL Franchise. Even if he thinks their rules are ridiculous or if they’re made poor choices with some of their owners (and they have made some poor choices) he’s made a terrible mistake by alienating all of the Board of Governors. If only he has played by their rules, taken a ownership role in a US city and not tried to force relocation, he would have been an owner by now and eventually would get an opportunity to bring another team to Canada.
Most unfortunate that he went with this strategy. All the other pro sports leagues are on board with the NHL. Unlikely Balsillie would get an opportunity with another league either.
