Thursday evening was a great night of no nonsense talk on topics like the NBA finals, steroid usage in health clubs , and much more, with Dr. Steve Starkman, one of the sponsors of the latenightvampire.com. As we were watching the Lakers and the Celtics battle right down to the wire, before Los Angeles prevailed by a 83-79 score, Steve was commenting on the Grand Canyon like size difference, between the basketball played between the finalists, and the comparatively poor product the Toronto Raptors have offered their fans, for several years. The Celtics and Lakers played hard nosed, no nonsense basketball from start to finish. The two teams were both tough with their defense, throughout the final game. Toughness is something that the Toronto Raptors haven’t featured in their games, since the days of Charles Oakley. It’s hard to imagine that hoops fans in Toronto, will continuously support the weak version of the sport, that is offered at the Air Canada Centre by the home team, for most of their matches. It was so refreshing to watch basketball, the way it was meant to be played.

Speaking of the NBA finals, congratulations to the Lakers on their championship, and to the Celtics, for proving their critics wrong, about the theory many professed, suggesting that Boston was too old to be able to compete for a title. Obviously the cynics were completely out to lunch in their estimation of the “C’s”. Game 7 was as close as could be, and the Celtics loss by a miniscule margin, was not an issue of being “too old”. Younger teams, like the Raptors, could learn quite a lot about the way the game should be played, by really paying attention to the way these “old” men reached the NBA championship round.
Dr. Steve works out in a gym in Oshawa,Ontario, and I was very surprised to hear him tell me, that from his estimation, as many as 70% of the people working out in this club, are using steroids. He sais he can tell by the muscle size of the clients in the gym,and the muscle definition as well. From the research he’s done, he feels that most of those who are “juicing,” are likely doing it for cosmetic reasons, hoping they will impress a member of the opposite sex. With all the research and information that is known about steroids, and if Steve’s estimation of the number of steroid users is correct, then it really is amazing, that so many fitness enthusiasts would still want to risk their health, to think that they might impress someone on the beach or anywhere else, with unusually large muscles. No one will be impressed if any of these performance enhancers ruin the health and lives of the users at some point in time.If you really want to impress others, get a good education if you possibly can, and try competing for a good job. As for the muscles, a nicely proportioned body, as opposed to one that is freak sized, always makes a good impression.
