It was so refreshing to read that England coach Fabio Capello was strongly considering reinstating John Terry, the former captain of England, back into that prestigious role, after having stripped him of it last February, pertaining to the Chelsea captain’s affair with the former partner of international team-mate Wayne Bridge.

The point of disapproving of his behaviour has sufficiently been made, and there is no need to drag it out. The fans don’t really care, as is made perfectly clear, by the over the top adulation that Manchester United fans once again have for their star and England national, Wayne Rooney, after the allegations of his extra-martial affairs, while his wife was pregnant last year. As long as Rooney is scoring goals for the Red Devils, the faithful at Old Trafford could care less what he does in his spare time, so why should John Terry be further punished beyond this point in time. It’s not as though England played well without Terry as the leader. In fact, they performed poorly in the World Cup, not even coming close to expectations, in being ousted early in the round of 16, on June 27th, with a decisive 4-1 loss to Germany, at the tournament in South Africa.

No one outside of England really cared about who the captain of the Three Lions was, and within the country, the only ones who were down on the Blues defender, were fans of rival teams in the Premiership. Chelsea fans unfurled banners at Stanford Bridge last season, in strong support of the their long time leader.  The disapproval from rival fans  in the EPL, had nothing to do with Terry’s off the field behaviour. That was just an excuse to give him more of a verbal assault than they ordinarily would in a game.

As Capello expressed to ESPNsoccernet: “ I think after one year punishment that is enough for a mistake. For this reason, I need to make a decision about this problem…….. Rio ( Ferdinand)  was captain, but my first captain was John Terry. Rio was a good captain, so was Steven Gerrard, but I selected Terry first until his mistake.”

Ferdinand is currently sidelined with a calf injury that will prevent him from playing in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales on March 26th. Steven Gerrard is also not able to play at present due,to hernia surgery.
